At Hearthway, we are reimagining the response to domestic abuse by placing community, dignity, and personal agency at the heart of everything we do. Unlike traditional refuge models, which often rely on institutional accommodation and can be constrained by limited capacity, our community-host model unlocks safe homes across the UK rapidly expanding refuge options in areas where services are overstretched or inaccessible. Our volunteer host network provides a warm, human-centered alternative that reduces trauma and isolation. Survivors are welcomed into homes not facilities where they can experience compassion, safety, and respect in a family environment.
Every host is trained in trauma-informed care and supported through our professional team, ensuring the highest standards of safety, confidentiality, and wellbeing. We are agile, discreet, and survivor-led—matching each woman and child with the most appropriate host setting, and surrounding them with holistic support. From mental health and legal advocacy to financial literacy and long-term housing navigation, we build wraparound pathways to help survivors reclaim their independence and identity.
Where traditional models stop at shelter, Hearthway goes further, connecting survivors to opportunity, campaigning for systemic change, and changing the narrative around what refuge can be. We do not just house. We heal, we advocate, we rebuild together.
