Hi, my name is Rachael Dix, and I am a senior healthcare leader with over 25 years of experience in operational strategy, service transformation, and improving care for vulnerable and under-represented communities. Throughout my career, I’ve led large-scale programmes across the NHS, Social Care, and other Public Service organisations, always guided by compassion, accountability, and a commitment to putting people first.

Alongside my professional expertise, I bring lived experience of domestic abuse, an experience that has profoundly shaped both how I lead and why I care so deeply about the systems meant to protect and support us. I understand what it means to rebuild a life in the aftermath of trauma, and I believe wholeheartedly in the power of safe, trauma-informed spaces to help others do the same.

That’s why I’m proud to serve as a trustee of Hearthway. This charity is doing far more than providing shelter to those fleeing abuse it’s restoring dignity, offering compassionate support and creating real pathways to recovery. Hearthway’s unwavering commitment to walking alongside individuals through crisis and transition resonates deeply with my personal and professional values.

It is my privilege to contribute to this charity and the pioneering work they are undertaking to support women, children and their families to reclaim their futures.

Roger worked as a Registered Mental Health Nurse since he qualified in 1991.  In his career he managed local mental health and substance misuse services for Solent NHS Trust, and he is currently retired and no longer a Registered Mental Health Nurse. He also worked in Learning Disability Services before qualifying as a Nurse.

Born, raised and educated in Portsmouth, Roger is a father of two grown up children and these days also a user of local health and social care services.  In 2012 he applied and was successfully interviewed for the Interim Healthwatch Portsmouth Board, and he has now been elected to the Healthwatch Portsmouth Advisory Board, currently nominated by his peers as the Chairperson. Healthwatch is a national independent patient voice group.

He’s had many years' experiences of local health and care matters from providing and managing of health and social care services, plus more recently after his retirement as a user. It was during his days working in the NHS he encountered many situations where a charity like Hearthway would have benefited service users and their families, hence his interest in supporting this work today.

Roger has always had a passion for Equality and Diversity and chaired a Trust group for many years and was a Trustee of a local Race Equality Network Organisation for many years.

Currently he is a Trustee of Rebound Carers' Support Group also a Trustee of The League of Friends of St Mary’s Hospital in Portsmouth and a Trustee of Age UK Portsmouth plus he’s the Chair of his GP Surgery Public Participation Group (PPG) and the Chair of the Patient Group at Portsmouth’s Urgent Treatment and Surgical Centre."
